To whom it may concern at Head and Shoulders,

I recently brought your product for the first time. I’m a little confused. Is this product a shampoo and body wash?
I don’t understand why it’s suitable to wash my head and shoulders but not the rest of my body parts such as my neck.

I did think it was a little strange that a product had been designed specifically to clean heads and shoulders. However when I brought your product I saw other such products on the shelves from other companies like hand wash and face wash so your product didn’t seem that strange after all. Actually I thought it was a bonus that your product is designed to clean two body parts instead of one.

I am bald and a friend of mine is trying to convince me this product is designed for washing hair only. I told him that’s ridiculous, the name of your product is quite explicit in its application.

Please can you advise if this product is suitable for the rest of my body as well as my head and shoulders

I look forward to hearing from you soon,

Yours sincerely

Sebastian Bowen.

Head & Shoulders Response

Hi Sebastian,

Thank you for your email to Head & Shoulders.

Although as a company we are keen to keep the nation’s shoulders squeaky clean, this shampoo is in fact an anti dandruff shampoo, only designed for the head. Dermatologists recognise that regular use of Head & Shoulders is one of the most effective ways to help eliminate dandruff and its signs, including a tight, itchy scalp. Our products are designed and tested for use on hair and scalp only.

Kind regards,

Rachael

My Response

Hello Rachel,

Firstly I must say thank you for such a speedy response. Thank you.

As I am bald and do not suffer from dandruff, I do not think this is the right product for me.

To save confusion in the future have you ever considered rebranding your product. A suitable name that I thought of is ‘Hands 2 Hair’, seeing as these are the only two places that your product comes into contact with it sounds logical.

If you are not keen on that name then another name I thought of was ‘Not 4 Eyes’. If you do decide to go with one of these names I have suggested, then I would expect to be compensated for my time and effort.

Before I go please could you answer the following two questions.

1. Is your product suitable for pubic hair?

2. Is your product suitable for dogs?

I look forward to hearing from you again soon.

Yours sincerely,

Sebastian Bowen.

Head & Shoulders Response

Hi Sebastian and thanks for your email.

Head & Shoulders should only be used to wash the hair on the head. Head & Shoulders is renowned for its anti-dandruff qualities, hence the name; it not only keeps your hair clean and healthy, it leaves your shoulders dandruff-free.

Kind regards,

Head & Shoulders Response

Hi Sebastian,

May I firstly apologise for this standard and formal reply to your suggestion.

As you may be aware, there may be legal and other complications in relation to unsolicited ideas such as yours, particularly if the idea coincides with something we are already working on. We have therefore decided not to consider any idea unless it is of a technical nature and then only if it is patented or has a patent pending.

We have also decided that any unsolicited idea which has not been so patented should be returned to the sender, with this explanation, without any assessment of its merit. If your idea is patented/has patent pending, can you please forward it to http://www.pgconnectdevelop.com.

The Procter & Gamble Company does not receive suggestions of product names, packaging ideas, advertising material, recipes, premiums, or contests. Such ideas are more appropriately obtained from our own employees and advertising agencies. This policy, which has been in effect for many years, serves the interest of submitters as well as those of The Procter & Gamble Company.

If your idea falls within one of these categories, we regret that we are unable to look further into this for you.

We know that some people write to us with an idea purely out of friendly interest and without any thought of financial gain. Unfortunately, there is no way of differentiating between those who have (or might come to have such a proprietary interest) and those who do not. If you are in this latter group, we ask especially for your understanding.

Thank you in any event for your interest in our company.

My Response

Hello Rachel,

Thank you for such a detailed response. I fully understand your position and as such will refrain from sharing any of my future ideas with you until all legal and corporate matters are sorted.

However if you change your mind on the two ideas I have already suggested I would be willing to sell them both for ยฃ500,000 each. Just let me know.

Wishing you all the best for the future,

Thank you,

Sebastian Bowen.
